Exquisitely restored by a Melbourne couple who also own a beautiful 18th century farmhouse in the South of France, "Tussie Mussie Vineyard Retreat" promises a luxurious escape to a private estate that's a little piece of Provence on the Mornington Peninsula.
Once a commercial rose farm, this 28 acre property was bought in 2006 by the current owner and her husband who was at that time pursuing a corporate career in Melbourne, and dedicated her weekends to renovating and developing Tussie Mussie.
Inspired by the rustic charm and beauty of their historic farmhouse in Provence's Luberon Valley (the third house they have renovated and rented to guests), the owner has brought evocative but understated French flair to Tussie Mussie's interior design.
Committed to recapturing the rural idyll of Provence they left behind when they migrated to Australia in 2004, the couple planted seven acres with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris (another link with France), created lush vegetable and herb gardens, and spent three years completing meticulous
renovations. The electronically operated wrought iron gates glide open, and the long driveway flanked by vines and olive trees reveals the retreat set in superb gardens, terraces and
manicured lawns, with rose gardens and vineyards beyond.
Accommodation Comprises;
The entire estate excluding "The Vineyard Kitchen and Dining Room" (with its huge "walk in" catering fridge which can be hired by separate arrangement) can be booked for up to 14 friends or family members, or you can book separately the sumptuous four bedroom Vineyard Lodge, romantic two-bedroom Vineyard Cottage or the charming Old Laundry, an intimate and individual suite for two.
Each guestroom opens out to its own private garden or peaceful terrace, with a table and chairs ready for a lazy breakfast for two. Privacy is assured even if you're staying with a group, so you can settle down with a freshly made coffee and catch up with that long-neglected book.
A private chef can create a personalised menu for special occasions by separate arrangement, with lunch or dinner at the dining table in the Vineyard Kitchen, at the Long Table under huge trees overlooking the vineyard, or in a rustic setting beside the wood-fired Pizza Oven.
Vineyard Lodge -Spacious and beautiful, with four luxurious king bedrooms, each with its own lounging area, en suite bathroom, private entrance and terrace. Two rooms have their own wood fire heaters and three have baths. The kitchen is equipped for the keenest cooks, right down to the Maggie Beer cookbook. A separate media and movie room has a large LCD TV, Bose surround sound system and blissfully comfortable couches. A light-filled, high ceilinged lounge and dining area have a breathtaking outlook to the wide inviting terrace (perfect for outdoor entertaining), to the rose gardens, vineyards and the peaceful countryside beyond. Fully furnished with three large cushioned lounges, coffee tables, a bbq and market umbrellas, the terrace is the perfect spot for breakfast on a sunny morning or for aperitifs as the sun goes down.
Vineyard Cottage- Perfect for two couples or a small family boasting a king and a queen bedroom, large shared bathroom with double hand basins, double shower and Victorian-style bath. A cosy lounge with a wood fire heater, a dining table for four people with vineyard and garden views, and a country kitchen and gas bbq.
The Old Laundry Suite; A romantic and spacious suite just made for two, with King size bed, Neil Perry BBQ, Nespresso machine, TV/ DVD, iPod dock, cosy log fire and a private large covered terrace. This was once the farm laundry, and its decor includes a stylish collection of French laundry baskets, an antique washboard and vintage ironing board and modest kitchenette - for guests more interested in eating out in the wonderful restaurants, only preparing breakfast or BBQ ing in this suite, or for those looking for "time out" from the kitchen
The Vineyard Kitchen; The farms old workers lunchroom has been transformed into the Vineyard Kitchen, with wine bottles and produce reminiscent of an Italian enoteca. Watch dinner being
prepared by your chef in the professional kitchen, enjoy an aperitif in the relaxing lounge area, then dine at the single table for up to 14 guests.
In warm weather, the Long Table is irresistible for lunch or dinner for up to 20 guests and friends. Made from weathered timber reclaimed from an old pier, the table is shaded by huge trees and looks out to vineyards and hills.
At night, it's lit by three huge cast iron candelabra.
